FWEL: Poor Officiation As Luweero Giant Queens, Asubo-Gafford Ladies Share Spoils in League Opener
The low fitness levels of referees and poor Officiation in Women football games this season has been the hit song though not sure of when will it be launched.
Since the football governing body gave big percentage of Women referees to officiate women league games both Super and Elite, a lot of ugly scenes have been recorded despite the fact that Federation of Uganda Football Associations FUFA and the referees’ appointment Committee still silent about the big outcry from the stakeholders.
The FUFA Women’s Elite League season 2021/22 kicked off over the weekend with six matches, but the opener between Luweero Giant Queens and Asubo-Gafford Ladies FC held yesterday at Nsawo Ground in Luweero, had only two match officials and according their previous games, they have been assistant referees not centre referees.
It’s not known why the would be centre referee did not show up on the day.
From the start, the referees showed that the game is bigger than them, left many fouls on both sides uncalled for but it was too worse for the visiting side.
At least three penalties on any given day would be awarded, one for the hosting side and two for the visiting side but it seemed the centre referee at a certain moment cought ice and didn’t know what next after a number offences committed by players, actually it needed the players, technical benches of both sides to remind her to call for a foul.
In super League, the same fitness levels both mentally and physically were traced, Tooro Queens, UCU Lady Cardinals game held at Buhinga Stadium, the Cardinals reached at level of protesting a goal, Rines goal against Kampala Queens was cancelled controversially, the same applied to Uganda Martyrs High School WFC-Tooro Queens game, the Martyrs’ goal was cancelled, Kawempe Muslim against Kampala Queens at IUIU Kabojja, Ayubu Khalifa Kiyingi’s reaction about poor Officiation made him to be fined by 500,000/-.
Besides referee’s ‘man of the match’ performance, Luweero Giant Queens and Asubo-Gafford Ladies FC displayed a watchable game on the day.
It was an end to end game, Luweero first enjoyed the possession for the first 20 minutes of the game though Asubo’s backline of Zaina, Jennifer Mirembe, Nakayiwa Miriam and Jemima Namataka was very solid.
The first stanza went in a barren draw but only one minute into second half, debutant, Nyafonyo Teddy got the visitors a lead with a cool press to far post.
But in the 70th minute, Luweero Giant Queens through Mulungi Josephine leveled the matters to side host team fans in jubilation.
Benjamin Wanyama, the new Asubo-Gafford Ladies FC head Coach, was impressed with the performance of his team.
“It’s a new team I have been building for the past two months, being their first competitive game and on road, they played well, I have traced the errors which I am going to correct, we created chances but never put them away, such is what I am going to working at. ” Said Wanyama.
His counterpart, Edward Lugoloobi put the blame on the accident his key players got a day before the game, to which he says, it has distorted his game plan.
Asubo will be at home hosting Bunyaruguru Girls in the second league game while Luweero Giant Queens will visit table leaders, Isra Soccer Academy.
