FUFA Women’s Super League: Top 10 Outstanding Players in Group A
The group A games of FUFA Women’s Super League tourney ended yesterday on Saturday at FUFA Technical Center Njeru.
The group A had five clubs, each played four games, and at it’s climax on Saturday saw Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC and Uganda Martyrs Lubaga WFC going through to semifinals slated for next week.
Among the over 80 players that exposed their skills and talent at Njeru, this website managed to bring you the ten most outstanding players.
Some it has been their first time playing at such a high level while others have been their before.
Impressive players in group A.
10. Anitah Namata (Uganda Martyrs Lubaga WFC)
Anitah Namata is a former Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC forward, she joined Uganda Martyrs this season, she proved that she is worth a starter at any super league club in Uganda, Namata was among the few forwards that covered the biggest distance. Played all the 360 minutes and the best of all, she scored a winner against Tooro Queens that confirmed Martyrs’ qualification.
09. Josephine Ndagire (Makerere University WFC)
The intellectuals as they proudly call themselves, lost all the four group stage games but them and Tooro Queens had a wonderful ball display.
Josephine Ndagire, a modern defensive midfielder gave her defense of Yudaya Nalubega, Salima Namirimu, Viola Namuddu and Stella Namisango a good cover.
Her calmness with and without a ball was exceptional compared to other defensive midfielders so far we have witnessed in the tournament.
Hope the national team coaches who were in stands at Njeru managed to spot her.
08. Margret Kayima (Tooro Queens)
This one is an experienced midfielder, she has played for Rines SS, Lady Doves before joining the country Queens last season. Like Josephine, Kayima tried to give his team balance linking defense to striking line, her and Sumaya Komuntale gave other teams headache despite the fact that the team failed to make it out of the group.
07. Rebecca Nandhego (Unganda Martyrs )
In her debut season in the FUFA organized competition, the right back is one for the future, very calm at her position and her game reading is exceptional, she gave hard time to skillful forwards like Aminah Nababi of Makerere University and Fauzia Najjemba of Kampala Queens, in all games she didn’t disappoint those who have her trust.
06. Fauzia Najjemba (Kampala Queens)
As a skipper, apart from their tough fixture against Kawempe Muslim where they lost 4-0 in opening game, Fauzia Najjemba stood tall for Kampala Queens, won them six points out of the nine they collected.
The U-17 Women football national team assistant Skipper, scored three goals for the side, unfortunately they couldn’t go through.
05. Resty Kobusobozi (Tooro Queens)
Wow! This is another talent any one should not stop watching, the girl has all any midfielder should have, she has been an outstanding player for Country Queens. At least she scored a goal for Tooro Queens despite her picking the only red card in the tournament.
04. Jolly Kobusinge (Tooro Queens)
This natural left back is a leader by birth, at her younger age, the girl showed maturity in the way she commands her fellow Queens on pitch, good at defending and going forward. Don’t be surprised when you see her at any of the national under teams.
03. Aisha Nantongo (Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC)
This one is a former St Noa Girls student, played for Kawempe Muslim Ladies at least for three seasons. Before the tournament, she was entrusted with captain armband replacing Mariam Nakabugo who left the team at the end of last season.
Aisha showed that she is a great leader, she did not have consistent partner in her defense but she proved that she is comfortable with any partner,she did not disappoint, she took the team to semifinals. Apart from Gloria Namugerwa of Uganda Martyrs, none played better than her in centre back.
02. Allen Nasaazi (Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC)
This is another Juliet Nalukenge in the making, only 15 years of age but the Kawempe Muslim senior two student currently proved to be the best younger player in the tournament, played four games in her debut season and scored three goals, currently topping the scorers’ chat with Fauzia Najjemba.
She is very aggressive, fearless and U-17 Women national team has gold in her.
01. Gloria Namugerwa (Uganda Martyrs Lubaga WFC)
This one is a captain fantastic, if there is to be a player to be proud of this tournament at Njeru so far is Gloria Namugerwa.
All decisions went her way, made no any serious error in her defense, scored the best goal of the tournament in Group A, helped her team to go past group stage.
The girl has leadership abilities, whenever her teammates went off mentally and physically, she brought them back into the game with that on pitch talk.
So far her partnership with Patience Nabulobi is the best.
