Cricket U-19 World Cup: Not Babysitters, It’s Baby Cricket Cranes with a Ticket to West Indies
The Uganda Baby Cricket Cranes booked a slot in the ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup 2022 that is to be held in West Indies.
The Baby Cricket Cranes, the Men’s U19 team, have beaten Tanzania by eight wickets to topple the side on the five-team log in their last game. The babies had a better Net Run Rate of 2.128.
The Baby Cricket Cranes were however tied on points with both Tanzania and Namibia, all on six points.
The Baby Cricket Cranes needed a convincing win on the last day and emphatically beat Tanzania who suffered their first loss in the Qualifier tournament hosted by neighbors Rwanda.
After suffering defeat to Namibia in their opening game, Uganda bounced back stronger with double victory against hosts Rwanda and West African giants, Nigeria.
Skipper Pascal Murungi managed four wickets as Uganda limited Tanzania to 51 runs.
Namibia’s chances of progression were dented by Nigeria who set 184 in their innings, Namibia needed the same total in two overs to have a chance.
“The win means a lot to the team, it has changed our history since we last played in world cup in 2006 and now we are going back in 2021, we deserve a chance to be there because we are among the best in the world. We really worked hard to achieve this.” Said Pascal Murungi, the skipper and the best player on the day for the Baby Cricket Cranes.
I really thank Lord for bringing this far, this victory means so much, I think there are somethings you can’t explain with words, but surely it’s a life changing moment, it’s a pivotal moment for uganda cricket.” Said Coach Ivan Thawithemwira
” We are definitely going to give the best presentation for Uganda, we want to leave no stone unturned” he added
After a near miss in 2017, Uganda will be making their third appearance at the global showpiece. Uganda previously made it to the 2004 and 2006 editions in Dhaka, Bangladesh and Colombo, Sri Lanka respectively
