Winsa Primary School from Wakiso etched their name in the history books after being crowned champions of the Buganda Primary Schools Netball Championship following a convincing 28–18 victory over Kanjjuki Junior School in a thrilling final between two debutants.
The decisive encounter was played on Sunday, March 15, at the grounds of Kawanda Secondary School, where Winsa produced a confident and disciplined display to secure their first-ever regional crown and complete an outstanding tournament run.
Winsa had already shown their championship credentials earlier in the competition with an impressive group-stage performance. They opened their campaign in style with a commanding 33–0 win over Stallions Nursery and Primary School of Ttula before registering a solid 16–10 victory against Joy Mother. Their dominance continued with a comfortable 20–6 triumph over Kyeyune Islamic Primary School to finish the group stage strongly.
Their momentum carried into the knockout phase where they produced another convincing performance in the semi-finals, brushing aside Good Times Primary School from Kawaala with a 25–9 victory to seal their place in the final.
Kanjjuki Junior School, representing Kayunga, also enjoyed an impressive journey to the championship match. They maintained a perfect record in the group stage, beginning with a 19–4 win over Twinbrook Schools, followed by a hard-fought 15–9 victory against Good Times Primary School and an emphatic 18–0 thrashing of St. Apollo.
The Kayunga side maintained their fine form in the semi-finals, producing a dominant display to defeat Kyeyune Islamic Primary School 20–0 and book a place in the historic final against Winsa.
However, it was Winsa who rose to the occasion in the title decider, controlling the game and converting their chances to eventually claim the championship with a 28–18 victory.
With the Buganda championship now concluded, focus shifts to the upcoming National Schools Netball Rally set to be hosted at Kaddugala Secondary School in Masaka from March 26 to 28, where top teams from across the country will compete for national honours.
