Buganda Masaza Cycling Championship: Minister Launches 2024 Edition, Bulemeezi to Host the Opener
The Buganda Kingdom Sports Minister, Owek. Robert Sserwanga Ssalongo has officially launched the 2024 Buganda Masaza Cycling championship slated to commence on Sunday 14, April, 2024.
While launching the long waiting championship on Tuesday at Bulange Mengo, Owekitiibwa asked the locals, security to corporate well with the organizers as well as the companies and individuals to come up and support the cycling sport talents.

“Previously we had the cycling sport but due to challenges, it went in the hibernation but this time round, His Majesty has given a chance to youth with cycling talent to also compete.” Says Minister.
“The opener of this year’s championship will be held this Sunday in Luweero [Sazza Bulemeezi], each County [Sazza] will be represented by three to six players in both men and women. We’re going to have two categories; for professional bikes and the local bikes [Manyi ga kifuba], so I urge whoever with talent to come in the race and also ask the sponsors out there to finance these Youths.” He added.
The championship of this year will be hosted in five counties (Amasaza), Bulemeezi (Luweero)[Sunday,14th, April], Mityana (Singo)[Sunday,7th, April],Ssese [Sunday, 08th, September], Buddo (Masaka)[Sunday,6th, October ]and Kyadondo (Lubiri Ring Road)[16th, November ]
The grand finale will be hosted on 16, November, 2024 at Lubiri ring Road.
Even the counties in diaspora will also have their competitions.
The race will be for both men and women in ordinary bike race and road bike or professional bike races.
For the local or ordinary bike race, Women shall ride for 30km, men for 60km. The professional races, the women shall go for 60km while men for 90km.
According to the Buganda Kingdom Cycling chairperson, Mathias Lukwago, the race in Luweero will commence at 9am and climax at 12noon and the Roadmap; the racers shall set off from Edema Hardware in Luweero and ride to Wobulenzi Police Station.
