Buganda Kingdom Minister Advises Parents to Enroll Children in Sports Oriented schools to Avoid Aliens-like Society
The Buganda Kingdom Sports Minister, Owek. Robert Sserwanga Ssalongo advised parents to always enroll their children in schools that embrace sports and the talents of the younger ones.
While opening the 2024 Buganda Schools Sports Competitions on Friday, 8, March, 2024 at Kawanda SS Ground, the Minister asserted that it’s only sports that can help the country to have a well nurtured society because sports teach discipline.

“We’re fighting against technology, nowadays kids no longer play enough, today you have seen that we have only six schools, this is because many schools don’t have playgrounds, so I request any parent out there to take their kids to a school that has a playground such that kids can play together. Nowadays our children play with machines[computers], then when they grow up, on many occasions they think like Aliens [ebimenke], but in sports you learn how to be patient, control a win and a loss because it’s what in sports.” Says Sports Minister.
For the past recent years, school sports in Buganda has been lagging behind and the turn up has been decreasing but the Minister asserted that the tournament will get back to it’s heydays.

“Buganda has many schools, but we have managed to get only 43 of them, so I arge head teachers to embrace not only academics but also Sports, the heydays are coming back, in few years we shall be having over hundreds schools.” He confirmed.
And the Kawanda SS Director Hajji Maseruka Muhammad, revealed why they put facilities in place.

“Like any other schools in Uganda, they used to have Sports and the ministry by then to give you a license to operate a school, you had to show where the students shall practice sports from, so as Kawanda we responded to the call and we also want to develop the talents of our students.” Says Kawanda SS Director, Hajji Maseruka Muhammad.

This year’s edition has attracted 43 schools, 1410 students participating in football, basketball, handball, Netball, Volleyball and Woodball.
