Black Star FC etched their name into the history books after clinching their maiden Kampala Regional League title, finishing top of the table with an impressive 54 points from 36 matches under FUFA’s newly introduced competition format.

The newly crowned champions sealed the title in style with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Edgars Youth FC at Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku, sparking celebrations among players, officials, and supporters.

The triumph marks a significant milestone for the ambitious club, which now shifts focus to the upcoming promotion play-offs where they will battle for a place in the FUFA Big League.

Black Star’s title-winning campaign was inspired by the outstanding performances of 19-year-old sensation Benson Lutaaya, who walked away with both the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award and the league’s Golden Boot after scoring an incredible 22 goals throughout the season.

The club also dominated the individual accolades through goalkeeper Sirajje Masembe, who was recognized as the league’s best shot-stopper after claiming the Golden Glove award.

Beyond the championship race, the clash against Edgars Youth carried added significance for Black Star head coach Sekajja Zack. Facing his former employers, the tactician used the occasion to demonstrate his credentials, guiding his side to victory and ultimately lifting the league trophy against the very club he once served.

The celebrations were further boosted by club proprietor Dr. Kabajja Ali, a medical doctor at Mulago National Referral Hospital, who rewarded the players with a UGX 5 million cash bonus for winning the league title.

Dr. Kabajja also challenged the squad to complete the job by earning promotion to the FUFA Big League, promising an additional UGX 10 million bonus should they successfully navigate the play-offs.

With silverware already secured and promotion within touching distance, Black Star’s remarkable season could yet become even more memorable as they aim to take the next step in Ugandan football.
