Kampala Regional League: Impala Hill Starts Smart as League Returns After Two Years of No Action
After at least two years of being in hibernation due to COVID-19 pandemic that hit the planet, regional league (3rd division) games returned back and Kampala Regional League kicked of yesterday with a number of exciting games.
The Allan Kabonge’s Impala Hill FC had a smart start of the league following a 1-0 win against Ntinda FC.
The only goal that gave Impala a win at Kigoowa Ntinda Playground was scored by Andrew Kalule in the 19th minute of first half, thanks to Martin Nsubuga Nabutono assist.
“We played a very good game and I am happy that we have started our campaign with a win. As a senior player at the team,Kalule acted as an example and scored us a winner which good.” Outspoken tactician, Allan Kabonge said after the game.
On 12th December, 2021, it’s when the Kampala Regional League kicked off with seven games played and three missed out due to some issues rotating around licenses and ongoing Masaza Cup competition at Njeru.
Among the fixtures that were not honored include; Ggaba-Wembley Boys, Edgars-St Mary’s and Kireka-Fire Fire encounter.
According to Region PRO, Meddy Ssengendo, the clubs cited that they had challenges with licenses and many of their players are taking part in ongoing Masaza Cup competition which hugely affected their squad depth.
“For this, clubs had issues with there player licenses and there squads were affected by the Masaza tourney so squad depth also affected them.” Ssengendo told this website.
NEC FC, on road surprisingly beat the region Giants, Catida FC by a goal to none as the relegated Katwe United from Big League, started on a good note with a 1-0 win against Industrial Area.
In other games, Nsambya Sports Club beat Bweyogerere, 2-0 while Lufula FC at Kanyanya playground shared spoils with Water FC by a 2-2 goal score line.
At Nakivubo Blue, Kampala Junior Team FC beat Lungujja Galaxy 2-0 while Kisugu edged Black Star 2-1 at fulltime.
For starters, the league comprises of 21 teams, divided into two groups of ten and 11, that is Cobra and Scorpion respectively.
