Olympics: Cheptegei, Kiplimo Save Underprepared Uganda From Shame, Secure first Medals
In the past weeks and days, Uganda has been in Olympic games news for poorly treating Weightlifter Julius Ssekitoleko and losing on the early days of the games in Tokyo Japan.
However, today the two 10000m runners, Joshua Cheptegei at least changed the news angling about Uganda with two medals.
The long distance runner and World’s number one Joshua Cheptegei has clinched a silver medal in the 10,000m race.
Going into this race, Cheptegei was favorite to win it but finished second behind Solomon Barenga an Ethiopian national as he clocked 27: 43:53 to add an Olympics gold medal in his bag.
Another Ugandan in the race, Jacob Kiplimo won bronze as he posted 27:43:88 to finish third in Tokyo.
Stephen Kissa who was the pace setter for the Ugandan duo retired with eight races to go.
Cheptegei and Kiplimo have won Uganda’s first medals at this year’s Olympic games.
