COVID Donation: ‘Will this Money Survive?’, Ham Fullfils His Promise of 530M

Whether it will serve it’s purpose or not, that is another story but the Kampala Tycoon, Hamis Kiggundu of Hami Enterprises fulfilled his pledge of donating 530M shillings to buy COVID-19 vaccines. 

In the early days of last month (10th June) 2021, the Kampala tycoon, Hamis Kiggundu made a cardial call to the private sector to give a helping hand to the government of Uganda to solicit funds to buy enough vaccine for Ugandans to survive the deadly disease that is put the world on standstil now for two years.

On that day while at Uganda Media Centre in Kampala, Ham promised that he will contribute 530M calculated to buy 15000 doses of Astrazenaca Vaccine.

Let me take this opportunity to address Ugandans that from realistic and reason point of view, I think we can defeat Corona, because the scientists have showed us that we can Vaccinated Ugandans and this can become history.

I am of humble request to the private sector especially the investors, Let us join the government and see that we secure the vaccine.

Today, Friday 2nd July, 2021 after 20 days, Ham fullfiled his promise when he presented the donation of 530M in Cash to the Office of Prime Minister in Kampala and it was received by Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja.

Ham has give 530M, to buy Vaccine for first, 5000 people who includes his workers and tenants who rent at his facilities and then ten thousand will go to Ugandans. ” Dr. Monica Musenero 

We want to encourage other members of the private sector to do that. Ham wrote to the president requesting for permission to be able to procure Vaccine and also to encourage other private sector members to buy the vaccine directly but with Technical support from Ministry of Health and UNICEF, towhich the president accepted. ” Musenero added.

Covid Vaccination underway.

In the first phase of lockdown, the Office of Prime Minister collected  donation in billions from Ugandans to fight the pandemic and according to Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Health, Dr. Dianah Atwine reported that they collected 29Bn shillings but it’s still on account.

It remains again in their hands how and when they will utilize the new donation.
