Olympic Games 2020: COVID-19 In The Lead Against Bombers Before Unanimous Decision, Head Coach Tests Positive
The International Media, France 24 news reported tht one of Uganda’s team member flown to Japan on Saturday tested positive for Covid-19 and currently in isolation in Tokyo.
The media outlet did not identify the member but currently it’s not a public secret, the head of Boxing Federation in Uganda, Moses Muhangi revealed the name of the victim.
The victim is from Bombers and he is the head coach, Patrick Lihanda, this is according to Muhangi.
“Sorry for bombers head coach LIhanda, now you guys see why I was always complaining for the team moving in and out of camp,
Anyway let’s pray for quick recovery” stated Moses Muhangi.
The chairman of National Council of Sports as well as the president of Uganda Olympic Committee, Donald Rukare stated that they are in touch with the team in Tokyo and Uganda Embassy in Japan to see that Lihanda bounces back to camp.
“Good morning colleagues
We have received notification that upon arrival one member of the team delegation of nine tested COVID-19 positive.
The delegation has been fully vaccinated and underwent the mandatory two COVID -19 tests before departure.All were negative.
The rest of team members ( eight) have arrived in Izumisano City Osaka. We are liaising with the team and the Embassy of Uganda officials in Tokyo. The safety and health of our team remains our paramount priority.” Donald Rukare in his own handwriting.
The most prestigious tournament starts next month but Uganda went earlier for a training camp.
