FUFA Women’s Super League: Shadia Nankya Free Kick Earns UCU Maiden Victory Against Resilient Corporates
Shadia Nankya lone strike in the five opening minutes of the game earned UCU Lady Cardinals a maiden win against resilient She Corporate FC on Tuesday morning at Njeru Technical Center.
The goal came in the 5th minute of the game, Shadia Nankya took a a hard short from a free kick, 25 yards off the goal line and Vanessa Karungi Edith, She Corporate’s custodian failed to save the Sharks in deep Waters at Njeru.
Both sides played a hard tactical game, none gave each other full opportunity to execute the abilities on the ball.
After scoring, UCU got limited chances, most of the minutes on the pitch they have been at the receiving end.
The introduction of Thungu Janet Elah and Susan Atim on the pitch, She Corporate gained more momentum in the final third but on three critical occasions, Ronah Nantege let them down.
The unpleasant performance by his girls, UCU Lady Cardinals assistant tactician attributed the poor display to the artificial turf, citing that they have spent over a year minus playing and their return to the pitch was on artificial turf which affected them.
“I am grateful that we collected the three points because it’s what we wanted first. I thank my players and we shall improve more on that.
We are used to playing on grass, full year not playing the ball and then we came back using artificial turf, so it affected us.” Assiimwe Simon after the game.
She Corporate registered their first loss, slipping off the winning track, but Zzinda Ali, the Sharks tactician however thanked his players for good display despite the fact that they did not get a win.
” The performance wasn’t bad, though we lost the game, at least we tried to play, pressing them especially in second half, but luck wasn’t on our side but I think we shall bounce back strong in our next game.”
She Corporate going to have a 48 hour rest before their second game, they will be playing Isra Soccer Academy WFC on Saturday.
UCU Lady Cardinals are returning tomorrow playing against Lady Doves FC.
