SC Villa Reach Super 8 Semi Final After Emotional Victory Over Maroons

SC Villa booked their place in the Super 8 semi finals after overcoming Maroons FC 3–1 at Hamz Stadium completing a 4–2 aggregate victory in an emotional quarter final return leg.

The Jogoos entered the decisive fixture carrying heavy emotions following the death of their former captain, David Owori.

In his honour, Villa players wore shirt number 15 the number previously worn by the late Owori as they walked onto the pitch.

The emotional tribute continued into the match when play was stopped in the 15th minute. Players, officials and supporters joined in a moment of remembrance for Owori, leaving sections of the crowd visibly emotional.

Despite the difficult circumstances, Villa displayed determination and character to overcome Maroons.

Sebuufu put the Jogoos on the scoresheet before Kakande and Otim added the other goals to seal a 3–1 victory on the night.

Maroons managed a late consolation through Obua in the final minute of the four added minutes, but Villa had already done enough to secure their place in the semi finals.

Speaking after the match, Villa assistant coach Ibrahim Kirya said the players drew motivation from one another following the loss of their captain.

Kirya explained that the players had to lift themselves emotionally and mentally and use the game as an opportunity to begin the healing process.

For Villa, the victory was therefore more than just a step towards another trophy. It was a show of resilience from a team dealing with the loss of one of its own.

The Jogoos now head into the Super 8 semi finals as defending champions, hoping to retain the title against the best eight teams from the concluded season.

With the memory of David Owori still fresh in their hearts, Villa will now look to complete their campaign by lifting the Super 8 trophy once again.
