Plascon Joins the Race to Finance Uganda Cup Tourney
Kampala: One the leading Paint producing company in Uganda, Kansai Plascon joined Stanbic Uganda to finance Uganda Cup tourney.
The Paints company has boosted the competition with amount totalling to Sh132m for the next two years.
This amount was revealed on Friday in a press briefing held at the company’s offices at third street Industrial Area in Kampala.
Santosh Gumte, the Managing Director of Plascon paints revealed that the Company is honored to join the board and associate with football family.
“I am very honoured to have come on board, we are always associated with Sports, we have always wanted to associate with Uganda Cup because of its rich history.”
Plascon recently completed a deal with Vipers Sports Club as the club’s paint partners.
FUFA 3rd Vice President Hon Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi who represented the federation commanded Plascon for developing Ugandan sports and encouraged them to grown wings to Women football as well.
“We are excited to see that the Uganda Cup continues to grow, this is good news for the game,” stated Nakiwala. “I wish to encourage plascon to explore more opportunities in some of our tournaments that they haven’t joined like Women football that is on a high rise.”
Nakiwala also confirmed an increase in this year’s prize money from Sh132 to 166m:
The winner of this 2020/21 season tourney will walk away with 50M Shillings while runnersup will go for 20M.
Winner- 50M
Runners up- 20M
Semifinals- 12M
Quarter Final- 6M
Round of 16- 3M
Round of 32- 1.5M
According to FUFA Competitions director, Hajjat Aisha Nalule revealed that this year’s tournament will accommodate only 32 teams due to COVID-19 effects and the tournament is slated to start on 5th April to 24, July 2021.
The tourney will be played on a home and away format.
Big League side Proline Football club are the defending Champions, won the championship in 2018/19 season.
KCCA FC and Express FC are the joint all time winners, 10 titles each and SC Villa has nine titles.
