Nsubuga’s Leadership Kicks Off Ambitious Plan to Train 5,000 Kho Kho Coaches

Kho Kho Uganda has launched an ambitious nationwide coaching development program aimed at training over 5,000 coaches within the next three years as part of efforts to accelerate the growth of the sport across the country.

The campaign got underway with the successful training of 100 coaches in Soroti and Masaka on Thursday, June 11. The sessions were conducted at Soroti Secondary School and Masaka Saza Grounds, bringing together participants from schools and communities eager to contribute to the development of the game.

The initiative is one of the first major grassroots programs under the newly elected leadership of Kho Kho Uganda President Mustapha Nsubuga, whose administration has prioritized expanding the sport’s reach through education and capacity building.

According to federation officials, the trained coaches will serve as ambassadors of the game, helping to introduce Kho Kho in schools, organize community competitions, and identify young talent for future development pathways.

The federation believes that investing in coach education is crucial to establishing a strong foundation for the sport and ensuring sustainable growth across all regions of Uganda.

The training sessions in Soroti and Masaka mark the beginning of a wider nationwide rollout that will target more districts in the coming months. Through this strategy, Kho Kho Uganda hopes to increase participation levels, improve technical knowledge, and strengthen structures at both school and community levels.

With an ambitious target of training 5,000 coaches by 2029, the federation is signaling its commitment to transforming Kho Kho into one of Uganda’s fastest growing sports.

As the new leadership settles into office, the focus remains firmly on grassroots development, a move that could play a vital role in unlocking the sport’s full potential and creating opportunities for thousands of young Ugandans across the country.
