Kawempe Muslim Set Up Buddo Clash As USSSA U20 Championship Reaches Round of 16

The knockout stage of the 2026 USSSA U20 National Boys Football Championship delivered excitement in Lira District on Friday, with Kawempe Muslim Secondary School emerging among the standout performers after defeating Kichwamba High School 2-0 to book a place in the Round of 16.

Kawempe Muslim looked sharp and disciplined throughout the contest, needed the first seven minutes of the first half to seal a comfortable victory that now sets up a heavyweight showdown against defending champions Buddo Secondary School in Saturday’s last-16 fixtures.

The day was filled with drama, goals and penalty shootouts as several schools fought hard to keep their championship dreams alive. Record champions St Mary’s Kitende reminded everyone of their pedigree with a ruthless 4-0 victory over Kitara Secondary School, one of the biggest wins of the Round of 32.

Buddo SS also cruised into the next round after brushing aside Kisozi Seed School 3-0, while Kyadondo SS impressed with a commanding 4-0 triumph over Mukono Kings High School.

Some teams had to dig deeper to survive. Mbale Progressive eliminated Masindi SS 5-4 on penalties after a barren draw, Greenlight Islamic edged Kibuli SS in a tense shootout, and Busia Secondary School also held their nerve from the spot against St Joseph’s Buyaga.

Mentor Secondary School produced a clinical performance to hammer Ibanda SS 4-0, while London College Nansana, Nkoma SS, Lubiri SS and Madinah Islamic all secured narrow victories to continue their impressive runs in the tournament.

With the competition now entering the decisive stages, Saturday’s Round of 16 fixtures are expected to attract huge attention as Uganda’s school football giants battle for quarterfinal places.
