Confident Kampala University Set for Regional Netball Battle

Defending champions Kampala University have been officially flagged off ahead of the 2026 East Africa Netball Championship with confidence high that they can successfully retain their regional crown.

The send-off ceremony was held at the university’s main campus in Ggaba, where players and officials expressed optimism as the Ugandan giants prepare for another demanding campaign on the East African stage.

Head coach Jessy Asiimwe dismissed concerns about the pressure that comes with defending the title, insisting her side is mentally and tactically ready for the challenge ahead.

“We are set and with Salongo Kateregga behind us, we fear no team,” Asiimwe confidently stated during the flag-off event.

Kampala University head into the tournament carrying the weight of expectation after their impressive triumph last year, a victory that strengthened Uganda’s reputation as a powerhouse in regional netball.

Uganda will once again field a strong contingent in the women’s category with NIC Netball Club, Uganda Police Netball Club, Prisons Netball Club and KCCA Netball Club all expected to battle for honours.

In the men’s division, Uganda’s hopes will rest on WOB Netball Club, Kampala University and Legacy Netball Club.

The championship is expected to bring together top clubs from Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania and Zanzibar in what promises to be a fiercely contested tournament for regional supremacy.

With preparations complete and confidence soaring, attention now shifts to Kampala University as they seek to defend their title and further cement their dominance in East African netball.
