As schools break off for the long December holiday, children aged 7 to 17 will have a chance to refine their athletic abilities through a newly introduced multi-sport residential camp organized by Future Stars Sports Academy.
The 10-day camp was officially launched yesterday, November 18, at Gayaza Junior School. The event was attended by key partners, including representatives from Gayaza High School and the Wakiso District Sports Department, led by committee chairman Brian Senyonga.
Also present were Uganda Badminton Association CEO Simon Mugabi, who doubles as the camp coordinator, as well as Gayaza Junior School headmistress Sarah Kizito.
Organizers revealed that the camp will offer structured training in football, netball, and racket games, among other physical activities aimed at keeping children active, productive, and technically grounded during the school holiday. A team of certified coaches and sports educators will oversee all sessions.
In addition to sports training, the camp will offer essential educational and wellness sessions, including Career Guidance, Mental Health Awareness, First Aid and CPR Training, and Safeguarding in Sports.
Speaking at the launch, Mugabi highlighted his extensive experience in youth sports development.
“With my leadership experience at continental level—as Vice President in charge of development at the African Badminton Federation—I bring 34 years of organizing camps, a journey that began in 1991,” Mugabi noted.
Wakiso Sports Department chairman Brian Senyonga encouraged parents to embrace the program, saying it meets the developmental needs of young athletes.
“We are part of this initiative because it offers every child the right package when it comes to sports development,” Senyonga said.
Host headmistress Sarah Kizito expressed pride in partnering with Future Stars Sports Academy.
“I am proud that our school is hosting this opportunity to help shape the future of sports for the next generation,” she said.
Gayaza High School headmistress Robina Kizito echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing that the camp ensures both talent development and the well-being of the learners.
She said the program provides “a safe and secure environment where children can sharpen their skills, keep fit in mind and body, and productively spend their long holiday.”
The Future Stars December Sports Camp will run until December 17, when participants will take part in a showcase event demonstrating the skills acquired in football, netball, and racket sports.
