Swimming: Moses B Mwase Retains USF Top Seat, Promises To Expand The Sport Wide
Moses B Mwase retained his seat as the Uganda Swimming Federation President following the elections held today, Saturday 13th March 2021 at Lugogo Indoor Arena- Kampala.
The current Uganda Olympic Committee second Vice President, Mwase garnered 28 votes beating his only competitor on the seat, Peter Simon who collected 14 votes out of the 42 delegates who took part directly in the elections.
Mwase who took over from Dr. Donald Rukare after the latter being appointed the National Council of Sports Board Chairman last year, promised to bring the game on top with the scripted manifesto he revealed while campaigning for the post.
“ I am glad to having given a new mandate by the AGM to lead the federation for the next four years.
My emphasis is on us having our strategic plan refined so that we can chat a new direction for the federation, some of the key things, I would like the executive to look into and be part of of our strategic plan is to expand swimming, we want swimming to be for all, we want a new National coaches curriculum, we want to be financially stable and having a National Aquatic centre be of course encourage development of Aquatic facilities across the country.” Moses B Mwase said immediately being elected.
To his competitor, Peter Simon Mugisha, Mwase said that he will get time and have a chat with him to see how his (Peter Simon) developmental ideas put to use in the current leadership.
Assistant General Secretary technical, National Council of Sports, David Katende applauded swimming federation for being professional in how they handle their affairs especially elections.
“It has been a good process, very organized, as I have been saying, USF is the model federation in the country, they have held the process to its end without anyone pulling each other’s collar, so I ask other federations to copy what swimming is doing.“
