Pepsi University Football League: Former Champions UCU Brace for Stubborn Kumi University Test

Match Day 3 of the Pepsi University Football League kicks off today with a thrilling Group E encounter as former champions Uganda Christian University (UCU) host Kumi University at the UCU Grounds in Mukono at 3pm.

UCU, who lifted the title in 2019, currently sit third in the group with three points from two games, while Kumi University are joint top with four points, having enjoyed a strong start to the season.

Kumi University head coach Okwakol Eli expressed confidence ahead of the clash, saying his side is determined to continue their impressive run.

“We have started the season well and the boys are motivated. We are going for all three points in Mukono,” Okwakol noted.

The hosts will look to build on their emphatic 6-1 victory over newcomers King Ceasor University, a match that saw Reagan Ssekisambu bag the first hat-trick of the season. His performance will again be key as UCU aim to bounce back from their earlier 1-0 home defeat to Ndejje University.

Historically, UCU have had the upper hand in this fixture, never losing to Kumi University. Their most recent meeting ended in a 2-2 victory stalemate at Mukono in the 2023/24 season.

However, Kumi University have proven to be one of the toughest upcountry sides this campaign. They opened with a 1-0 win over Makerere University before holding Ndejje University to a 2-2 draw at the Arena of Vision in Luweero.

With their sights firmly set on reaching the knockout stages for the first time, Kumi will be eager to make a statement in Mukono. Meanwhile, UCU will be desperate to reclaim their dominance and keep their title ambitions alive in front of their home crowd.
