Finance Trust Women Elite League Kickoff Postponed Due to UCE Exams

Fans of the Finance Trust Bank Women Elite League will have to wait a little longer for the return of Uganda’s second-tier women’s football competition.

In a statement released by the FUFA Competitions Department on Thursday, 16th October 2025, the federation confirmed that the start of the 2025/26 season has been postponed until further notice. The decision comes as many of the participating players are currently sitting for the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) examinations, which will run throughout October.

“The postponement is intended to allow all student-athletes to participate in their national examinations without conflict,” FUFA said in its communication.

The league was initially scheduled to kick off this Saturday, 18th October, with Matchday One fixtures expected to wrap up on Sunday, 19th October.

This year’s edition comes with a new and expanded format, increasing the number of participating teams from 14 to 16, all of which have successfully met the FUFA Club Licensing requirements. The teams have been grouped based on geographical proximity to reduce travel costs and logistical burdens.

According to the competition format, the top team from each group at the end of the season will earn promotion to the Finance Trust Bank Women Super League, Uganda’s top-tier women’s competition.

While the delay may dampen excitement temporarily, FUFA assured fans that the rescheduled fixtures will be communicated in due course.

The postponement underscores the federation’s continued commitment to balancing education and sports development, ensuring that young female players can pursue both their academic and footballing dreams without compromise.
