Uganda Joins the World to Celebrate Fair play Day, UOC Urges Youths to Play True and Right

Uganda Olympic Committee has joined the rest of the world to celebrate the World Fair Play Day that is commemorated every 7th day of September.
The World Fair play Day is a sports Initiative designed to promote fair play and ethical values in sports.
While at their head quarters in Lugogo Kampala, Uganda Olympic Committee have climaxed the initiative that was introduced in March at Kabojja.
In this initiative, Uganda Olympic Committee has been educating youths in primary and secondary schools to embrace the fairness in whatever they do to be upright and responsible citizens in future.
At the closing ceremony that was graced by the UOC Secretary General, Madam Beatrice Ayikoru, 15 schools from different regions in Uganda were represented.
“Fair play, What we have closed today is an initiative that was established by the Education commission of UOC to explain to us the need for fair play in sports , as you all know, sports has rules and regulations that for you to participate to be able to participate in sports, you must be fair to the competitors, that’s why we’re here today to close this initiative that we launched in March 2024, it has been implemented by very many schools from Eastern, North, western Uganda and central. Said Beatrice Ayikoru,UOC Secretary General.
“Through this initiative, we were able to pass the values to these youths in primary and secondary schools and we hope that they will be able to express these values they have learnt in their day to day life, that is to ensure that in sports there is fair play and there is no cheating, there is no use of doping and we hope that they will pass the same knowledge to their schools and communities.” She added.
This is the 5th time the world is celebrating this rebranded day but according to UN, the initiators of this Day, its celebrations starting next year (2025) will be held on 19th May.
Some of the Schools that have embraced the day at UOC include; Mbogo Mixed, Iganga, Kibuli SS.
