UNF Election: Anek Please Take a Chill Pill, Leave office Amicably, Furious Delegates Refuse To Give President Grace Period

Not like it has been in the past Annual General Assemblies of Uganda National Federation where the president, Susan Anek have been dictating the meeting, this time round the delegates turned the tables the other way.

Before the AGM held on Friday 26, February 2021 at Hockey Grounds Lugogo, the executive was proposing to hold the federation’s Elections either in November this year or February 2022 as they keep the office though according to constitution, their term of office ends on 28th February 2021.

Giving a reason that they were elected in November 2017, so they had to complete their four years but the furious delegates did not allow that and all stood against the Executive’s thinking.

“The word term is coming an issue here, let’s leave alone the calender and whatever, the thing is four years.

You said that this executive should not go beyond February but my humble request let’s not hurry to do things and later we regret, we can’t never have elections in less than six Months because it’s a long process.” Susan Anek giving her submission.

After series of discussions from different delegates, the AGM decided to go with June 5th 2021 as the voting day for the top executive but this came after a tag of war with President Susan Anek who never wanted to leave the office before November clocks.

Veteran netball administrator and a delegate, Rosette Kaala after giving a background of a mistake they made to allow the current executive to come in Power in November of 2017 instead of February as the constitution commands, she moved a motion demanding the executive to organize elections and voting of new executive be held in the first week of June and her motion was seconded by Federation treasurer, Yusuf Kamulegeya but with amendments.

“You said everything, now this is what I am saying, let’s suggest a day when the elections WI take place, I don’t want us to repeat the same mistake we did last time and I regret being among those who supported the postponement of the elections.” Rosette. 

“Now I am moving a motion, I am suggesting the the first week of June 2021 to have our elections, the three Months are enough to organize elections.” She moved a motion that was support by almost 90% of delegates present.

In deep pain, Anek accepted what the delegates decided and the AGM went to an end when they reached on agreement that elections will be held on 5th June, and the handover expected to take part in August.

Nakamya Anet, the newly elected Chairperson of Uganda Badminton Association elected as the Returning Officer, though she wasn’t around.

The AGM also passed a budget of over two billions for the year 2021.
