Pepsi UFL Awards Gala: Gagganga Says Bye to University Football with a big Smile, Eyes UPL

The Pepsi University Football league, 2023/24 season officially climaxed with an Awarding gala held on Tuesday at Kati Kati Restaurant – Lugogo.

The best performers of the season ranging from players to administrators were awarded. The event was graced by AUUS president, Penninah Kabenge and other AUUS executive officials.

Geoffrey Gagganga, Uganda Christian University captain is among those who win big at the dinner and he will be leaving university football with a big smile.

Though he failed to lift the trophy with UCU as a captain after losing the final 3-1 against Nkumba University the reigning champions, Gagganga won three individual awards, including the most valuable player accolade.

On top of the MVP award, Gagganga was voted the best midfielder beating off the competition from Nkumba University’s winning captain, Ssewankambo Kennedy and Abura Micheal of St Lawrence University, he was also part of the best XI of the season.

“…. being awarded means that you have been working hard, you have been doing something great, maybe not better than other players but at least there are extra moments you have been getting at the pitch.” Says the MVP- Gagganga Geoffrey.

Gagganga featured in his last season and he is eyeing Premier league football.

“Another thing, it’s exciting to win something but as a player when you win something that means it’s a debit and it requires you to work harder. As a player, now my main ambition is to join the Uganda premier league and play the game.” Says MVP Geoffrey Gagganga.

The league winning coach, Dr. Bbosa Suilaman also gave his views about the awards.

“…. we’re happy for this arrangement as Nkumba University and we believe they (UFL) were fair, of course we don’t know how they do make their decisions but me as a coach I am content with what they did. I came out as the best coach, not because my fellow coaches were not good but the winner of the league, maybe always has an upper hand, I am also happy for my players who were voted, Lubega Ismail (best Defender), Obwana John (best goalkeeper), Ssewankambo Kennedy who made the best XI, I think that will motivate us the more, i also congratulate the other winners from other teams.” Says Dr. Bbosa Suilaman, Nkumba University tactician.

Rookie player of the season: Muzoora Alleluyah (Kabale University)

Best Goalkeeper: Obwana John Andrew (Nkumba University)

Best Defender: Lubega Ismail (Nkumba University)

Best Midfielder: Geoffrey Gagganga (UCU)

Top scorer: Ssentongo Akbar (UMU)

Best Sports Tutor: Lukaire Samuel (UCU)
