Grant Us More Space, UVF Holds Successful Media Symposium
In their pursuit to expose more the game of Volleyball in Uganda, the newly elected Uganda Volleyball Federation executive chose to start with media training.
On Saturday, at Lugogo, the federation held a one day media symposium with aim of elevating media personnel on the technical know how of the game.
Before the serving off of the one day Symposium, the newly elected UVF President, Sadik Nasiwu in his opening remarks revealed that Media symposium is one of the ways through which his executive is rejuvenating the sport of Volleyball in the country.
“We (new UVF Executive Committee) are dedicated to develop the game but this will take support of all the stake holders. You all need to leave your comfort zones for the love of the game,” Nasiwu noted at the Symposium after narrating the history of volleyball, both here in Uganda and globally.
“Volleyball needs patronage, love and passion that’s why it was initially played for leisure though it was characterized with few tournaments and championships, before clubs were privatized in the early 90s,” Nasiwu added.
For the club media officers and federation to understand more the importance of Media towards the development of the game, the Executive hired experts to brainstorm the stakeholders who attended the symposium.
Among the facilitators is the Federation of Uganda Football Associations head of communication a d PR educator Ahmed Hussein who taught the federation and media how to create a beautiful image of the game to public through PR and Media relations.
The other facilitators included the FIVB International referee, Innocent Komakech who went through a number of sessions teaching participants different rules and regulations that governing the game of Volleyball, while international journalist, Usher Komugisha gave tips to journalists how to report about the game.
Volleyball has been getting small space in media but Usher advised the federation to create it’s own journalists who can passionately report about the game, the Idea to which the executive bought and said they are to continuously engage media and they are planning to have another symposium before active tournaments and league serve off.
Some the media personnel who participated in the symposium include Daniel Okwee of Inside Volleyball, Kayiira Jackson of Voice of Bugerere and Nim Sport, Kyeyune Ali- Musana FM, Ssewanyana Ali- Pearl FM, Nabukera Hadijah from FUFA FM, Faith Kiai- New Vision, Charles Lwanga- New Vision, Emmanuel Ssekago- Red Paper, John Were-Vision Group, Kigozi Abdul- Chimpreports, Odong of Red Pepper and Sports Ocean among others.
