Badminton: Uganda, Kampala International Tournaments Launched

The two international tournaments, Kampala International and Uganda International have been launched on Wednesday, at Cooper Chimney – Lugogo Kampala. 

The first tournament is Kampala International badminton championship scheduled to start on Thursday 28th September and climax on Sunday, 1, October 2023 and it has attracted 16 nations.

The other tournament is Uganda international series and it’s an Olympic qualifying event which will commence on Monday 2, and climax on 08, October 2023 and 26 nations will be taking part.

David Katende, that National Council of Sports Assistant general secretary as the chief guest at the presser, applauded Uganda Badminton Association for developing the game and tourism in Uganda since it’s one of the association that host a number of international events.

“I thank the Uganda Badminton Association for their improved event management which has saw their events getting recognized at international level”

“It is not easy to get different international events in a year.
It brings in a lot of sports men and women to our country which is an income avenue and also when they go back they take back the picture to attract more tourists to Uganda” says David Katende. 

“This time our players will have to score points to see them qualifying for Paris Olympics games, this also helping us in terms of minimizing travel expenses.”

At the same event Katende on behalf of National Council of Sports has recognized the excellence secured at West Africa badminton tour as players like Gladys Mbabazi, Husina Kobugabe, Tracy Naluwooza, Shamika Fadilah and Brian Kasirye presenting medals won from Cameroon international, Lagos International and Benin International to see them earning 2024 Paris Olympics qualifying points.
