President Museveni To Address The Nation As Ebola Kills Over 50 In Two Months

President Yoweri Kaguta Museven will tomorrow, on Tuesday 15th, November 2022, address the nation at 8pm, according to a statement released by State House.

The broadcast, according to the State House, will be live on all radio and television stations.

Meanwhile, as the president plans to address the nation, Ebola has claimed at least fifty four (54) lives in the first fifty five (55) days since it’s outbreak on September 20.

The last situation report by the World Health Organisation (WHO) has shown that Mubende district, which registered the index (first) case, has since lost twenty nine (29) people out of the 54 registered deaths.

The report update as of 10th November 2022 indicates that the disease, which has been confirmed in eight (8) districts, has one hundred thirty seven (137) cumulative confirmed cases while recoveries stand at sixty five (65).

The eight districts include Mubende, Kassanda, Kyegegwa, Kagadi, Bunyangabu, Wakiso, Masaka and Kampala. Mubende and Kasanda are the epicentres of the Ebola Virus, with sixty three (63) and forty seven (47) confirmed cumulative cases respectively. Both districts are under a second 21-day lockdown as a mitigation measure to check the spread of the disease.

Ms Rose Byabashaija, the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) and the Chairperson of the Mubende District taskforce, told this publication at the weekend that they are optimistic that Ebola Virus will soon be contained.

Out of the 2,187 contacts listed in the districts, 1908 of them have completed the twenty one (21) days of follow-up, and have already been reintegrated into their respective communities, the WHO situation report revealed.

Yesterday, Sunday 13th, November 2022, Jinja District recorded it’s first Ebola death after samples from the patient, who died on Friday 11th, November 2022 at Buwenge Health Centre IV, tested positive for the virus.
