MUBS Make Statement as Pool Debuts at AUUS Games

Makerere University Business School (MUBS) wasted no time announcing their intentions as pool made its long-awaited official medal debut at the AUUS Games, producing a flawless opening-day performance to headline the action at Uganda Christian University (UCU).
Inside Bishop Elifaazi Maali Hall, MUBS swept past Kyambogo University 5–0 in emphatic fashion, setting an early benchmark in a sport that graduated from demonstration status, first seen at University of Kisubi in 2019, to full medal contention this year.
The commanding victory was driven by a ruthless trio of Remmy Katende, Jalaludin Batte and Ivan Mwesigwa, who showed composure and precision to win all their frames and complete the whitewash without conceding a single point.
Captain Jalaludin Batte said the strong start mirrored the team’s ambitions at the Games.
“This was the perfect way to begin. Everyone played with confidence. Our goal at these Games is to win the historic first gold,” Batte said.
Away from the MUBS spotlight, Lira University also made a strong statement with a 5–1 win over University of Kisubi, even though Kisubi boasted Woodball World Cup player Michael Musaazi, who claimed his side’s only frame.
Lira’s victory was powered by Rodney Mutebi and Innocent Olum, who won two frames each, while Jesse Johns Ogwal sealed the tie with the fifth point.
Lira head coach Herbert Nsimbi praised his players’ discipline despite limited time together.
“I have been with the team for a short time, but they played exactly according to my expectations. The commitment was impressive,” Nsimbi said.
In other results, Soroti University edged Kampala International University (KIU) 5–3 in a closely fought contest, while Mountains of the Moon University comfortably defeated Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) 5–1. Hosts Uganda Christian University (UCU) progressed by walkover after Bishop Stuart University failed to turn up.
