U17 AFCON Qualifiers: Uganda To Face Somalia in Semis
The U17 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers semifinal draw is now complete, with Uganda among the sides still battling it out for the CECAFA Zone Qualifiers title.
Uganda Cubs (U17) will continue their quest to defend the title on Wednesday 12th, September 2022 as they battle it with Somalia at the Abebe Bikila Stadium in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
After putting up an outstanding performance in the group stages where they garnered maximum points, the Cubs will now face off with Somalia who finished second in Group A.
Uganda defeated Burundi in the opening group stage game by a resounding 4-0 scoreline, with Alex Yiga netting a brace before Nkola Arafat and Richard Okello scoring each.
This was followed by another victory over South Sudan via a highly deserved 4-1 scoreline.
In their second game, Rays of Grace Academy youngster, Nkoola Arafat, scored a brace, while other goals were scored by Patrick Ssembusi and Abubakali Walusimbi.
Elsewhere, Somalia defied the odds by defeating the hosts, Ethiopia via a narrow 1-0 scoreline, before losing to Tanzania 2-1 in the final group game.
In the other semifinal, Tanzania are set to take on South Sudan.
The two best performing countries will represent the CECAFA Zone in the the 2023 U17 AFCON tournament which will be played in Algeria from 8th to 30th April 2023.
