Elderly People Should Be Respected, Says Minister

The minister for elderly affairs, Hon.  Dominic Mafabi Gidudu asked Ugandans to elderly with respect and avoid acts abuse. 

Mr. Gidudu spoke this while addressing press on Tuesday at the Uganda media Center about the readiness of Uganda to join the world to commemorate the world elder abuse awareness day which will take place on 15th June this year.

The government through the ministry of gender,labour and social development has called upon all Ugandans to be vigilant from any acts of abuse to older persons but treat them with respect,dignity and care.

Minister of gender,labour and social development in charge of elderly affairs Hon. Dominic Mafwabi Gidudu asserts that; “Abuse of older persons as a global issue but it’s becoming a major problem in Uganda which affects the health and human rights of many older persons and deserves the attention of all communities.”

The official ceremony  will be held at Kaliro district headquarters tomorrow under the theme: Stop elder abuse,promote health and dignified aid for national development.

Mean while Minister says that the ministry of gender,labour and social development has put in place a comprehensive social protection policy frame work which will strengthen social care for older persons.

In this, the minister was clear that there is a need to sensitize all elderly people to know about there rights in order to reduce the violation of there rights across the entire world.

With due respect also reminded to each and every elderly person whoever has been violated to report to the police around in order to break up the silence of elderly rights.
