The 2022 Kampala Junior Chess Open championship set for Friday 3rd and 4th Saturday, 2022 at Kembabazi Restaurant in Naguru.
The Uganda Chess Federation Secretary General Ojok Patrick has urged parents to involve their children in chess from a tender age because it is good for their brains.
Ojok made the remarks while speaking about the upcoming Kampala Junior Chess Open that is scheduled to run from 3rd to 4th June 2022 at Kembabazi Restaurant in Naguru.
“Chess is a very good sport for children and the best time for the to start playing is under 10 years and even as young as 6 years old,” Ojok said.
“Chess is helps to develop children’s strategic and problem-solving skills and even helps improve their academic performance. And we have seen that when children start playing at a young age many of them go on to become chess masters unlike those who start playing chess when they are older,” Ojok added.
Tournament organizer FA/FI Ssonko Matthias said the two day event is for Under 9, Under 11 and Under 13 age categories and will be played over eight swiss rounds with recording which will help improve their game
“Our objective with this tournament is to help kids improve their game while having fun. It’s important for kids to play themselves competitively as often as possible to accelerate their learning and improve their performance,” Ssonko said.
Winners, Runners-Up and Best Girl in each category will each get a trophy while all participants will get certificates.
Registration fee is UGX 31,000 (includes 2 lunches)
Registration deadline is Wednesday 1st June 2022.
