Volleyball 2021 Elections: Who is Salma Kairungi, Vice President Contestant
The Uganda Volleyball Federation (UVF) elective Assembly is less than fortnight to its eve on Sunday 31, 2021.
For the first time in history, the vice president position has gotten more than one contestants and currently they are three including, Kalangala district Woman MP elect, Hellen Nakimuli, Faridah Nalinya, former KCCA Volleyball club skipper, and Nkumba University Volleyball club manager, Salma Kairungi Otika.
At moment, Voice of Bugerere brings you Salma Kairungi to let you know who is she and what is she intending to do for the sport of Volleyball in Uganda, once elected.
Who is Salma?
My name is Kairungi Salma Otika, a wife, mother, entrepreneur, the Director KROOZ Services Limited, and Vice Chairperson of Visionary Amigos Investment Club.
I am currently the Manager of Uganda Volleyball National Team Ladies U-20 and also Manager KCB NKUMBA University Volleyball Club (NUVC), a position I have held for the past two years. Prior to this, I was the Manager of ESPOIR Volleyball Club for one year.
In both my management roles at ESPOIR and NUVC, and the numerous consultations I did with other Volleyball club managers, I realized that most clubs face similar challenges which I trust can only be solved by the Uganda Volleyball Federation.
In my engagements with some of the current and previous Federation leadership, I have been motivated by the encouragement they have given me to seek for a position within the Federation so as to contribute to the service and growth of volleyball in Uganda. It is on this background that i hereby stand for the position of 2nd Vice President, Uganda Volleyball Federation.
What have you achieved as Manager NUVC?
In the two years I have been with NUVC, we won all the eight (8) major tournaments we participated in, including two international tournaments. This success is attributed to the full engagement and commitment of all key stakeholders (Nkumba University, partner – Hermes, the main sponsor – KCB, the players, management, and the fans).
The engagement was well achieved through: –
· The dedicated, passionate and hardworking management team and players.
· Good preparation and planning by both the management team and players.
· Good communication and coordination between management and the players.
· Improved awareness campaign through the media, which facilitated the growth of the fan base that supported the team by buying the club apparel and also religiously attending club activities/events.
· The committed financial support from the University, Partners (Hermes), Sponsors (KCB) and well-wishers helped the funding of day to day affairs.
· Motivating players by giving them scholarships and job opportunities after graduation.
· Well planned and dedicated training programs for the team including health program facilitation.
· An arrangement with International School of Uganda (ISU) for a fully equipped gym for training of the team.
· Working with high/secondary schools who act as a feeders to the junior club.
It is from the above successes, experience, and peer recommendations that I wish to advance my contribution to volleyball in Uganda by representing women and being part of the executive at the federation.
What are you aiming to do for sport development once you elected?
Given the opportunity, I will bring to the executive a person in me that is very passionate about the overall growth of volleyball in Uganda.
I count on my demonstrated integrity, good interpersonal skills, ownership in getting things done, a proactive approach to solving challenges, good stakeholder engagements, and an inherent desire for good results.
I trust that Uganda Volleyball has a unique opportunity to have a good home, especially with the increased awareness that some of the competitive successes created.
With also improvement in communication between the Federation and the stakeholders, more women joining the leadership, improved volleyball engagements with schools, universities and national teams, improved awareness campaigns and engagements with the stakeholders and fans, Uganda volleyball will definitely achieve greater heights because volleyball starts with us.
I pledge my full commitment to delivering on the responsibilities of the 2nd Vice President in working with the executive to give the leadership that the stakeholders deserve to take Uganda volleyball to greater heights.
