Pepsi UFL: ‘We can’t be your last stepping stone’, KIU Delays UCU’s Quarterfinals Qualification

Wednesday result:

Kampala International University 1-1 Uganda Christian University

Kampala International University denied Uganda Christian University chance to be the first University to make it to the quarterfinals of the 11th edition of Pepsi University football league.

The two sides shared points on Wednesday afternoon at Kirombe playground-Kampala following a one all draw at fulltime.

Peter Kyomuhendo scored for UCU while Kalyango Simon cancelled the goal with a penalty.

Not like they have been playing in first round, Ahumuza Collins charges looked too casual and welcomed pressure from Kampala International University which has been not the case in their previous fixtures of the group B.

Through their skipper Awekonimungu Joseph, KIU had a chance to take the driving seat but he wasn’t clinical and failed to put the ball at the back of the net.

In the 42nd minute, Peter Kyomuhendo with a nice header, handed UCU a halftime lead, thanks to Harry Abiti well delivered cross from the edge of the 18 yards box.

The absence of Allan Opio at the centre of their attacking trio and Mutebi Ivan out of their midfield made UCU look casual and gave KIU chance to dominate the game especially in second stanza.

In the 73rd minute, Wasswa Abdu short to the goal was stopped by UCU defender’s hand in the forbidden area and the centre referee awarded a penalty to the hosts which was converted by Kalyango Simon in the 74th minute.

At the final whistle, both sides shared points.

In the reverse fixture, UCU at home beat KIU 2-0, currently the 2019 Champions UCU are still on top of group B table with 10 points out of four played games, KIU now sit second with four points, Busitema University third and Kumi University fourth with only one point.

Uganda Christian University only needs one point out of the two remaining fixtures to make it to quarters.

The league will continue on Thursday at Buwambo where YMCA will be hosting IUIU.
