Ministry of Water and Environment Embarks on Forest Restoration, Launches Decade Plan

Destroying forests and wetlands in the guise of planting sugarcane, establishment of factories in the order of the day in Uganda.

And according to research made in 2018, Uganda at least loses 3% of it’s forests every and and it was predicted that in the next 25 years if nothing is done, Uganda will have no forests.

However, the Ministry of Water and Environment launched a ten year plan that is aiming at restoring the lost forests in a bid to save the environment of the pearl of Africa.

According to Dr Florence Grace Adong the director of water resource management in the ministry says this ten year plan will be a decade for recovering back the environment which now faces alot of challenges of degradation and pollution.

Efforts will be made in recovering forest cover loss,wetland loss and also address bio diversity loss.

Dr Grace said this today while addressing press at Uganda Media Centre- Kampala about the commemoration of the world environment day celebrations on 5th June and in Uganda that will be held in Luwero under the theme: ONE EARTH CONSERVE FOR LIFE.

“In Uganda we have a ten year environment restoration plan, we going to take a decade in restoring the environment, we are making all efforts to restore the forests. She said.

She also called on all people to remember that the earth is our only home and our survival depends on the way we handle it.

Mean while Dr Grace says it’s time humans shift from harming the planet earth to healing it and this can be done by stopping encroachment of wetlands,forests,lake shores and river banks and restore degraded areas.
