Masaza Cup 2021: Buddu Sazza the Champions

Buddu Sazza football team beat Buwekula 2-0 on final held a fully packed St Mary’s Stadium Kitende on Saturday to be crowned Champions of the 2021 Masaza Cup Edition.

Through captain Marvin Kavuma header and Bruno Bunyaga strike in the 60th and 73rd minutes respectively, Buddu won it’s second title in history of Masaza Cup.

At the hour-mark, Kavuma directed a powerful header off Gideon Odongo freekick past Buwekula goalkeeper Isaac Kwizera to send the Buddu fans into wild celebrations.

The lead was doubled 13 minutes later when Bruno Bunyaga squezed through the second from close range to take his tournament tally to six goals

Buwekula had all it takes to kill the game in the first stanza and the first ten minutes of second half but failed to capitalize on the chances they received before Buddu came on track to give their fans happiness with the first strike from captain Marvin Kavuma.

Coach Frank Mulindwa of Buwekula accepted that Buddu were more tactical than them and utilized their half chances but thanked his players for a good display on the day.

“We played a good game, and I thank my players, they really did well, only that we did not use our chances well and yet Buddu used their half chances.” Frank Mulindwa.

Buwekula failed to win their third title.

Buddu won their second title, the first since 2016. This has been the fifth time Buddu reaching final but they lost three of them in 2015,2018 and 2020.

In the third place play off, Bulemeezi beat Mawokota 1-0 thanks to Gabriel Eragu’s only goal.

Buddu goalkeeper Michael Lutaya was named the Most Valuable Player, Isaac Musiima (Buwekula) takes the golden boot with six goals (Bunyaga also had six) while Buwekula was given the Fair Play award for being the most disciplined team.
