CAF Women’s Champions League CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers: A Painful Exit For Queens From Kampala

Uganda’s representatives in the ongoing CAF Women’s Champions League, Kampala Queens, saw hopes of advancing to their maiden final painfully comes to an end.

Asefa’s side were eliminated by Rayon Sports Women of Rwanda in a penalty shootout (4-3) following a goalless draw after 120 minutes in the first semifinal of the tournament held at Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi on Sunday afternoon of 14th September 2025

Kampala Queens had an intense battle with Rayon Sports, but despite a solid performance, they were unable to convert in the penalty shootout.

Teddy Najuuma, Shakira Nakwanga, and Joanita Ainembabazi all scored for Kampala Queens, while Cathy Nagadya and Zaituni Namagambe missed their penalties, ultimately ending the team’s dream of advancing to the final.

This exit means Kampala Queens are out of the competition, but they still have a chance to fight for a bronze medal. They will face the loser of the match between JKT of Tanzania and Kenya Bullets in the third-place playoff.

After the tournament, the Queens will return to Kampala to prepare for the upcoming Financial Trust Bank FUFA Women’s Super League 2025-2026 season.

On the other hand, Rayon Sports Women have advanced to the final, where they will await the winner of the JKT vs. Kenya Bullets match at Kasarani Stadium.

The game, dominated by few chances, could have gone either way, with both teams looking solid defensively. The goalkeepers from both sides made crucial saves to keep their teams in the game throughout the 90 minutes.

In extra time, Kampala Queens showed aggression, but their finishing in the final third was lacking, preventing them from finding the back of the net.
