The Three Schools to represent Greater Mukono Region in the 2022 Post Primaries finals to be held in Arua next month were known after Monday results.

Mukono Kings High School (Mukono District), Kayunga Light College and St Pontiano Ngondwe SS Kangulumira (Kayunga District) are the three Schools to raise the flag of the region when the National finals kick off this month in Arua.

St Pontiano Ngondwe SS Kangulumira Celebrating After Qualification

Mukono Kings High the champions of Mukono District and Kayunga Light College booked their tickets after winning their semifinal games against St Pontiano Ngondwe SS Kangulumira and Kasawo Secondary School respectively.

Kayunga Light College defeated Kasawo Secondary School by 1-0 score line scored by Huzairu Kasadda in first half of the game to earn his School their maiden regional final.

The loss to Mohammed Kiseka coached side, Kasawo Secondary School meant they had to wait for a 3rd place playoffs to book a ticket to Nationals.

Kayunga Light College Team Honoring Guests During Greater Mukono Region Finals

In the second semifinal between St Pontiano Ngondwe SS Kangulumira and Mukono Kings High School was decided by spot kocks  following a barren draw (0-0) in normal time.

In the shoots, Mukono Kings High School emerged the winner by 9-8. All players from both sides had scored but Vicent Mulema missed when his take was stopped by Mukono Kings stopper, David Wafula.

After Kayunga Light College and Mukono Kings High School had won their semifinal matches, they not only qualified but also booked slots to play in the Regional final.

The Tusimbudde Boys as they are nicknamed, Mukono Kings High School defeated Kayunga Light College by 5-3 in penalty shoots to be crown champions of the region. 

St Pontiano Ngondwe Secondary School eliminated Kasawo Secondary School in 3rd place playoffs to book the 3rd ticket of the region to Arua.

During the awarding ceremony, David Livingstone Kawuma, the head teacher of St Kalemba Secondary School Nazigo where the games were hosted thanked the teams for putting up a fighting spirit.

“I wish to thank all Schools who participated in this year’s tournament since we started at zone level because every level was competitive and for the Schools who made it to finals thank you so much for the discipline because off and on the pitch”. Stated Kawuma.

Also in presence was Richard Muhumuza, the Vice chairman Greater Mukono Region who promised that the region will provide all the necessary support to the teams which qualified because the target of the region is to reach quarter finals such that slots are added to the region.

“We have much trust in the teams which qualified to the Nationals and we believe they will perform. The target of the region is to reach quarter finals and our promise is that the region will support all the teams which qualified.
