CAF WCL Qualifiers: Lady Doves Traveling Contingent to Kenya
The Uganda’s representatives in the CAF Women’s Champions League zonal qualifiers in Kenya, Lady Doves FC have revealed the traveling contingent.
The team of 35, is set to be leaving to Kenya on Wednesday morning boarding Uganda Airlines.
Lady Doves, the Uganda’s flag bearers in the Inaugural CAF Women’s Champions League going to Kenya with a playing staff of 22 players, Technical team of six members, leader of delegation from FUFA and other club members, Club Chairperson inclusive.
While addressing media at the official flag off of the team at Uganda Martyrs High School Lubaga, the Club Chairman, Julius Mugisa asserted that the team is going for only number one slot nothing else.
Mugisa says, Lady Doves no longer representing it’s flag or the region they originate from, they are representing the national flag and asked the Pearl of Africa to be at their back.
“We are the first club to represent the country, we are not going as Lady Doves or representing our budge, but we are going to represent Uganda, we ask all Ugandans to be behind us in all aspects.” Mugisa said before adding.
“We have been in camp for almost three months, the team is in good shape, the girls are in good mood and ready to represent.
As the proprietor of the club and someone invested, the only demand I have is to come back home with glory and I believe we can do it.” He added.
In the same press conference, Chairman took the opportunity to applaud FA for standing with them with paper work, and travel support. Mugisa also thanked Uganda Martyrs Lubaga High School that housed them for almost one and half month, and the individuals who helped in different aspects.
“We have worked with the Federation closely, they helped us with paperwork, these things of traveling requires alot of technicalities, so they did a great job for us, they have secured 24 tickets for the team.
We also thank everyone who has helped us in any way, financially, technically, spiritually and any other support, surely we thank you.”
The president also unveiled the new kits they are to use in the tournament, the new players that have joined the team and the Technical team.
Lady Doves added four players, that is Gloria Namugerwa (Uganda Martyrs WFC), Daphine Nyayenga (Uganda Martyrs WFC), Zahara Nankya (Makerere University), and Halima Kanyago.
The technical staff added include; Rogers Nkugwa, and Byuma Muwada.
Lady Doves is in group A with Simba Queens, FAD FC and PVP FC.
Their opening fixture is on Saturday 28th, August 2021.
