Just In: Joshua Cheptegei at it again, Wins Uganda Gold Medal

Uganda’s long distance runner an a Star, Joshua Cheptegei did not disappoint, he won a gold medal in 5000m race in the ongoing Olympic games in Tokyo Japan. 

He clocked 12:58.15 to fend off resistance from Mohamed Katir of Canada (12:58.61) and Paul Chelimo (USA) who came third with a time of 12:59.05

Jacob Kiplimo finished fifth in the same race and the youngest of all Ugandans in the battle finished last.

The World record holder, Cheptegei led from the start but was fifth going into the third lap. He remained in character and came into fourth with two laps to go. 

Uganda’s hope regained his top position at the bell and started to move away. He was chased by Nicholas Kimeli, Chelimo and Ahmed at the home stretch but the Ugandan went into his gears to come home glorious.

This is the second gold for team Uganda, the first of it’s kid for Uganda since 1956 to win two gold medals in the same Olympic games.

Uganda moved to a tally of four medals, two gold, a silver and a bronze medal in this 2021 Olympic games underway in Tokyo Japan.

On record, currently, the pearl of Africa stands at 11 medals, four of them are gold and all from Athletics.
