Uganda to Join the World to Celebrate World Youth Week

The Hon. Minister of state for youth and children affairs Nyirabashitsi Sarah Mateke has launched the youth week at media center in Kampala.

Every year Uganda joins the united Nations and the entire world to celebrate international youth day (IYD) A day that was designated in 1999 after the general Assembly revolution.

International youth day was designated by the united Nations for government and partners to draw attention to issues surrounding the youth, their desires and aspirations but also to celebrate and recognise their contributions to the national development.

The theme for this project they have stated ” Youth innovations for transformation of food system and sustainable Human Health “.

In this regard the government declares the Week leading to the celebrations as the youth week of action.

The government have lined up a number of activities to raise awareness and advocate for the youth in line with the theme which put Young people in such a manner that elicits them to think innovatively about what can be done to transform our broken food system and ensure food safety and world Free from hunger.

The covid 19 pandemic has affected the young people in this country and have been learning for us as a country to innovate and go beyond the traditional methods of seeking for survival . the government also will support mechanism to ensure that youth make informed decisions on food choices through increased training and education on the sustainable options for both individuals and the environment and this Will be through the provision of adequate capacity development with respect to the food system.

The international youth day commemorations, the government shall engage with UN agencies , civil society organization, Youth organization and private sector to organise activities that target the youth and their interests .
