Real Star Monthly Awards: Nine in Contest, Three Accolades to Grab, Who’s the Best Of March?

The Fortebet Real Star Awards are back and the month of March has nine nominees from three strong sports disciplines, that is; Football, Golf and Rugby.

Like in the past two events, this month’s event is going to be held on Tuesday, 06, April 2021 at Route256 Restaurant and Bar, Lugogo Kampala.

The sport of Golf has three nominees, one hardworking man contesting against two ladies, Joseph Cwinya-ai is fighting for the Accolade against, Irene Nakalembe and Martha Babirye.

Why do we think that they are the best to contest.

Irene Nakalembe shot a closing round three-under-par 68 to grab her 7th consecutive Entebbe Ladies Open title after returning a total of 147 gross at Entebbe Club March 6.

Trailing by seven strokes after the opening round on Friday, the handicap-4 player had to dig deeper to edge her nearest rival and the biggest threat to this year’s championship Martha Babirye, by two strokes.

Nakalembe scored 7 birdies on the last day for a total of seven birdies on the day and eight over the two days to win the main trophy for keeps.

Joseph Cwinya-ai returned 140 gross over 36 holes to win the first edition of the Equity Rwenzori Open at Tooro Club on March 18. Cwinya-ai edged Denis Asaba by a stroke to win his first championship in over a year. Entebbe Club’s Chris Baguma finished third.

Martha Babirye was runners up in the Entebbe ladies open with 149 gross, two strokes away from winner Nakalembe. She had led by seven strokes in the first round but succumbed to pressure to lose out on the championship.

The best three in Rugby

 Winger Justine Kimono – six triys for Kobs in four games and Kobs is topping the league with 20 points
8th man.

Pius Ogena – Six trys for Kobs in three games and Kobs is topping the league with 20 points.

Fullback Maxwell Ebonga -5 trys and six conversion for Hippos, in three games
and Hippos are fourth with 11 points in 3 games.

Nominees for the best footballer for month of March.

Striker Derrick Kakooza was the top scorer in the just concluded 2020 AFCON U20 finals held Mauritiana.

But in the month of March he managed to score a hattrick in the AFCON U20 semifinals against Tunisia when Hippos defeated them 4-1 to reach the final. In that same game he was named the MVP.

Despite the fact that Hippos lost the final 2-0 to Ghana in the same month but Kakooza tried to put a performance although it was not enough for his team.

Steven Mukwala

He is the current top scorer in the league with 9 goals. Just in March he has scored five goals in five games. He has also enabled his club URA to be top of the table standings with 36 points. They have won all their last consecutive seven games. Mukwala was on target when URA defeated UPDF 1-0 away to Bombo. Mukwala still scored one as URA defeated Kyetume 2-0. The pacy forward scored his former side a winner as URA defeated Vipers 2-1 at Bombo. At Green Light stadium in Arua,Mukwala registered a brace as URA beat Onduparaka 3-0.

Sadat Anaku
He has managed to score six goals in five games. He has helped KCCA gather 10 points out of the required 15 to be fourth on the table standings with 27 points. He scored a hattrick when KCCA FC defeated Busoga United 4-0 in the league. He was also on the score sheet with a brace as KCCA FC thrashed UPDF 6-1 still in the league. Anaku scored in
1-1 draw with Police at Lugogo.
