Schools Learn Their Path to FEASSA Glory After Official Draw

The countdown to the 2026 Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSA) Championship has officially begun after the tournament draws were conducted on Thursday at USSSA offices at GNS Plaza in Kampala, revealing the group-stage matchups for the region’s schools sporting event.
The draw ceremony brought together representatives from the five participating nations—Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi—as officials reaffirmed their commitment to delivering a successful championship.
Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) Chief Executive Officer Christopher Mugisha Banage welcomed delegates to the event, expressing appreciation for their attendance while reiterating Uganda’s preparedness to host a memorable edition of the regional games.
Speaking on behalf of USSSA President Justus Mugisha, First Vice President Margaret Harriet Apolot thanked member associations and delegates for honouring the draw ceremony. She assured participating schools that the complete match fixtures would be released in due course to facilitate final preparations.
Representing Uganda’s Ministry of Education and Sports, Senior Education Officer Abalo Grace conveyed greetings from the Government of Uganda and commended all participating countries for their continued support of the FEASSA Championship.
“I bring you greetings from the Ministry of Education and Sports. I want to take this opportunity, on behalf of the Government of Uganda, to thank all the participating countries. I also thank FEASSA for giving Uganda the opportunity to host this draw event. To all participating teams, take good care of your athletes and let us respect the traffic guidelines in every country you pass through. I wish everyone the very best in the championship,” Abalo said.
The ceremony was attended by George Omondi, representing Kenya, FEASSA Executive member Margaret Harriet Apolot, FEASSA Organizing Secretary Ayub Khalifan Kiyingi, and Senior Education Officer Abalo Grace from Uganda’s Ministry of Education and Sports.
Following the draw, schools across the region now know their opponents in basketball, volleyball, hockey, handball and netball, paving the way for intense competition when the championship gets underway.
With the group-stage pairings now confirmed, attention shifts to the release of the official fixtures as participating schools intensify preparations for another highly anticipated FEASSA Championship, where East Africa’s finest secondary school teams will battle for regional supremacy.
