USSSA Games 2024: St Julian Writes History on a Fresh Page, Holders Kitende off to Quarters as JIPRA Run Riot against Kabalega
St Julian High School, the Greater Mukono Region representative remained standing in the ongoing Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association boys football championship in Masaka City has written history on fresh page as they made it to the quarter finals for the first time.
The Felix Ssekabuuza coached side beat Jinja Comprehensive 2-0 at the round of 16 in the fixture honored on Thursday at Kitovu I.
Sharp shooter, Simon Wanyama was again on target and Patrick Ssenkusu added the strike for Julian to take the day with a 2-0 victory.
The win came with a price as they will be facing the hosting school, Masaka SS who eliminated another Greater Mukono Region representative, Mukono Kings via spot kicks 6-5 following a three all draw in normal time.
Meanwhile , the defending Champions, St Mary’s Boarding School Kitende have continued with their perfect run, beat Nakaseke International 2-0 thanks to Hakim Mutebi and Issa Bugembe goals.
Jinja Progressive ran riot against Kabalega, the Busoga region representative thumped Bunyoro based school 5-0 in the last fixture of the round of 16 to book a meeting with their arch rivals, Jinja SS at quarter final.
The school with the most entertaining football in the tournament so far, Blessed Sacrament Kimanya schooled the USSSA president’s school Standard High School Zzana, beat them 4-1 at fulltime.
At quarters, Kimanya will meet St Mary’s Boarding School Kitende.
In the other round of sixteen clash, last year’s semifinalist and Teso region champion, Amus College was eliminated by Jinja SS via spot kicks 4-3 after a one all draw in normal time.
In another twist of events, Bukedea Comprehensive who we beaten 1-0 by Buddo SS, bounced back into the championship after petitioning the organizers accusing Buddo SS of using Ineligible players.
So Bukedea Comprehensive will play Wisdom High School in the remaining round of sixteen fixture at 8am before the kick off of the quarter finals.
