Women Football: COSAFA Pulls Uganda Out of Hibernation, Invites Crested Cranes For 2021 Challenge Cup

The Federation of Uganda Football Associations FUFA has confirmed and accepted the invitation from Council of Southern Football Association for the Uganda’s Women football senior team, the Crested Cranes, to feature in the 2021 COSAFA Women’s Championship.

The Communications Director of Uganda’s FA, Ahmed Marsha Hussein confirmed this news today before the draws for the championship were held at the Nelson Mandela Bay in South Africa.

FUFA confirms that the Uganda Women’s Senior National Team (Crested Cranes) will take part in the COSAFA Women’s Challenge Cup 2021, slated to take place between 15th and 26th September in Port Elizabeth, South Africa.” Ahmed Marsha Hussein confirmed to this website.

At least, it has been two years since Crested Cranes last had an engagement.

Few minutes after that great news to Women football franiternity, the Council of Southern Football Association, released the draws and Uganda was pitted in group C with other three familiar Opponents.

Uganda will be battling for the two available slots to leave the group for Semifinal berth with Namibia, Eswatini, and Zambia.

This is the second time Uganda is featuring in the COSAFA Women’s Challenge Cup, the first one came in 2018 and the Crested Cranes lost it at the semifinal when they were defeated by the champions and hosts South Africa.

It’s yet to be communicated when the team will storm training camp with only a month to the tournament.

Crested Cranes is still under the guidance of Coach Faridah Bulega who was also the head coach, the last time uganda was in South Africa.

Group A:

South Africa (Host), Angola, Malawi, Mozambique.

Group B:

Botswana, Tanzania, South Sudan, Zimbabwe.

Group C:

Uganda, Namibia, Zambia, Eswatini.
