The Netball discipline in the ongoing 19th edition of Association of Uganda University Sports Inter University games, it’s group stage action climaxed today and identified the four varsities that made it to knockout stage.
For starters, there were two groups, and two teams from each make it to knockout stage, Victoria University, Kampala University, hosts, Uganda Christian University and Nkumba University made it to semifinals which are to be played tomorrow, Wednesday at UCU netball courts.
Victoria University and Uganda Christian University, both topped their respective groups unbeaten, Kampala University and Nkumba University qualified as second positioned sides.
This means, Uganda Christian University will play against Nkumba University while Victoria University will be facing off with Kampala University.
In football boys, the group stage action climaxed today, Tuesday, UCU needed to beat resilient Busitema University 3-2 in last group game held at Namiryango College, Bugema University who topped ground C with 10 points, found no hurdle to beat Bishop Stuart University 5-0 at the same Ground.
Makerere University also secured quarterfinal berth at the last day, beating Nkumba University 2-1, Uganda Martyrs University also secured their first win, beating Kyambogo University 4-1.
The confirmed teams to quarters; UCU, Makerere University Business School, Makerere University, IUIU, Bishop Stuart University, Bugema University, Uganda Martyrs University and Nkumba University.
Though they didn’t perform better in football, Uganda Martyrs have already secured a gold medal in rugby.
Ndejje University got a gold medal in swimming and Karate, women category and Kampala International University won the gold medal in male category.
In women football, Nkumba are still on top of the group of four teams, they have eight points, the same with UCU who are in second position but with better goal difference.
Kampala University again secured a win against Kyambogo University, the side they beat 2-0 yesterday (Monday), their action will climax on Wednesday to find out the champions.
