Women Football: Nakacwa Kevin Lone Strike Earns Uganda Martyrs Victory Against Makerere
The Under 17 midfield gem, Kevin Nakacwa scored the only goal that earned Uganda Martyrs Lubaga WFC a hard fought win against Makerere University WFC in FUFA Women’s Super League opener at Njeru.
Nakacwa Kevin converted from a spot kick in the 72nd minute for the side to secure the three points off Makerere University.
It was Anitah Namata who was put down in the area by Namisango Stella in the 71st minute.
Uganda Martyrs from the first whistle showed that the game is in their hands and the opening ten minutes, they got two clear cut chances but Nakacwa Spencer and Catherine Nagadya were too blunt before the goal mouth.
When the game grew, Makerere started to pick momentum and their first attempt came in the 23rd minute but Aminah Nababi wasn’t on target.
The first stanza went goalless, and in second half we saw both sides make changes, Makerere University became the first side in this league to make substitution. In the 57th minute, Carol Anyango paved way for Namatte Samalie though she did not create a big impact.
Nkugwa in the 68th minute saw that Makerere’s Josephine Ndagire controlling the middle of the park, he introduced Esther Naluyimba in for Sumayah Nalumu.
Brenda Munyana and Shamusa Najjuma came in for Nakasi Latifa and Catherine Nagadya respectively.
Makerere University WFC was not that ready for the game, they came with no identity only the individual brilliance of Josephine Ndagire and Aminah Nababi made a difference for the Intellectuals.
Namugerwa Gloria, the Kidda Walime’s Skipper said that the game wasn’t easy for them but the are hopeful to improve in their next matches.
“Of course first games are not easy because every side come in to prove, we did not play well but the good thing we managed to earn the three points.” Told Media after the game.
