Uthuman Katerega Steps Down from Mawogola Masaza Cup Administration After Six Years
Uthuman Katerega Mwanadamu has stepped aside from the administration of the Mawogola County football team after six years of service in the Masaza Cup, describing his time with the side as a journey defined by commitment, sacrifice, growth and immense pride.
Katerega, who has served as Team Manager since 2020, announced his decision to leave the club administration while reaffirming his commitment to Mawogola football and the wider community.
In his appreciation message to the Banamawogola, Sazza Administration, players, supporters and friends of Mawogola, Katerega said his tenure was centred on strengthening professionalism, building a competitive team and ensuring that Mawogola earned recognition and respect on the Masaza Cup stage.
> “For the last six years, since 2020, I have had the honour and privilege of serving as Team Manager of the Mawogola County Team in the Masaza Cup. It has been a journey of commitment, sacrifice, growth and, above all, immense pride in what we have achieved together,” Katerega said.
He revealed that he personally invested more than Shs300 million towards the development of the team, its structures and the welfare of players during his time with the club.
Katerega said the investment was part of his commitment to building a stronger football structure in Mawogola and creating opportunities for young players.
“During this period, we worked to strengthen professionalism, build a competitive side and ensure that Mawogola was not only represented, but recognised and respected on the Masaza Cup stage,” he said.
“Together, we put Mawogola on the map and demonstrated what can be achieved when leadership, talent and community support come together.”
Katerega: This is not a farewell
Despite stepping away from the administration, Katerega stressed that his decision does not mark the end of his association with Mawogola football.
“This is not a farewell to Mawogola or to the beautiful game. I will remain a proud supporter and continue to celebrate, encourage and contribute to the team and our young people as we move forward,” he said.
He also expressed gratitude to Ssabassajja and the Sazza Administration for entrusting him with the responsibility and for providing a platform through which young people from Mawogola could showcase their football talent.
According to Katerega, the six-year journey created an important chapter in Mawogola’s history in the Masaza Cup.
“Together, we have laid an important landmark in the history of Mawogola County in the Masaza Cup, and I am deeply proud and forever grateful to have been part of that journey,” he added.
### Tribute to Banamawogola
Katerega paid tribute to the people of Mawogola for their continued support of the team throughout his tenure.
He credited the supporters with keeping the team motivated and ensuring that Mawogola football remained alive despite the challenges faced along the way.
“For six years, you stood with the team, supported our efforts and ensured that the candle of Mawogola football did not go out,” he said.
“Your encouragement, sacrifice and continued belief gave the club hope and the strength to keep going. I ask that you continue giving the team the same, or even greater, support in the years ahead.”
Players’ progress a major legacy
For Katerega, one of the most significant achievements of the Mawogola project has been the development and progression of young footballers.
He noted that several players nurtured through the Mawogola setup have gone on to feature in the Uganda Premier League, while others have joined established clubs and continued their football careers at higher levels.
“Many of the players we nurtured have gone on to play in the Uganda Premier League, while others have joined established clubs and continued to represent themselves and their communities at higher levels,” he said.
He also noted that a number of players currently participating in the Masaza Cup can trace their football journeys back to Mawogola.
“This is a legacy we should all be proud of,” Katerega said.
From football to wider community development
As he exits the football administration, Katerega says his attention will increasingly shift towards broader community development initiatives.
He said efforts will focus on youth empowerment, supporting women, strengthening livelihoods and creating opportunities aimed at improving the social and economic wellbeing of the people of Mawogola.
“The Masaza Cup has shown us that sport can unite communities, discover talent and open doors for young people,” he said.
“Our responsibility now is to build on that foundation and translate the same spirit of service into broader community development.”
Katerega thanked the players, coaches, administrators, supporters, partners and friends who were part of his six-year journey with Mawogola.
“I leave the administration with a heart full of gratitude, pride and hope. I may be stepping away from the administration, but I am not stepping away from Mawogola,” he said.
“I will remain a proud son of Mawogola, a supporter of our people and a champion of our young people.”
He concluded with a message to fellow leaders:
