Kampala Queens FC has officially confirmed the appointment of Shakira Nakwanga as the new team captain, according to a statement released on the club’s social media platforms.

The former Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC defender takes over the leadership role from Shamirah Nalugya, who recently completed a move to Belarusian side FC Minsk Women, Shamirah Nalugya.

Nakwanga, formerly with Kawempe Muslim Ladies, will be supported by Jamirah Nabulime and will retain her role as assistant captain alongside her new responsibilities.

One of Nakwanga’s key tasks will be to lead the Palace Queens beyond the group stages of the CAF Women’s Champions League Zonal Qualifiers.

The club aims to represent Uganda and the East African region at the continental level, after falling short in their 2023 campaign.

Kampala Queens will face tough competition in the upcoming qualifiers, including teams like Kenya Police Bullets and Denden FC. Their campaign kicks off with a crucial opener against Kenya Police Bullets.
