Swimming: Aqua Akii Swim Club Launched, Brings the Eight years’ dream to Reality

Aqua Akii Swim Club has become the latest new member of the Uganda Swimming Federation following its launch on Friday evening at Elite Swim and Gym in Ntinda-Kampala.
The club that was inspired by the great works done by the first Uganda’s gold medalist, the Late John Akii Bua came in existence three months back, that’s according to its chairperson, Hadija Namanda.
The launch that saw the club unveiling it’s offices at Elite Swim and Gym was graced by the Swimming Federation president, Moses Mwase who cited that Aqua Akii Swim Club has a potential to be a modale club in Uganda.
“I like the branding, the colours selected, the tagline that says, keep moving ” said Mwase in his opening remarks.
“We’re optimistic that this club is going to be a great club and a model club and as USF we’re ready to give the support that we can” – guest of honour Moses Mwase to Aqua Akii Swim Club.
The club chairperson also stated that the dream that come to reality, started eight years back when they drew inspiration from late John Akii Bua.
“Aqua Akii is a swim club that is inspired by a school program which is the Akii Bua sports program, the vision started over eight years ago but we are blessed that it has been manifested today and three months down after we have requested the USF to admit us as members, we’re glad that we took part in two to three events and the nationals being the latest and we managed to sqoop the 9th position out of 21 clubs.” Said Hadija Namanta, the club chairperson.
This club is a school based, it’s under the North Green School and Namanda believes in a few years to come, Aqua Akii Swim Club will be a top club in the country.
“…..we’re interested in bringing up and producing a holistic individual to the world….in a few years time, I believe we shall be at the very top because of the numbers we have grown and also the technical ability and the tracking aspect like we have done.” She added.
Elite Swim and Gym is the home of the club that so far has more than 20 swimmers.
Kirabo Namutebi and Tendo Mukalazi are among the top swimmers in the club.
