Badminton: National Team Cries For Allowances, Also think about Us

Ugandans are still performing better in the ongoing international Badminton tournament taking place at Lugogo Indoor Arena.

On behalf of others, Team Uganda Captain and seed one in the country in men’s category, Brian Kasirye after winning his tie against Kenyan national, he told media that the Association has managed to give them accommodation, food and did COVID-19 tests but it’s now time to start thinking about giving them allowances especially in such international tournaments.

“Yes they catered about our accommodation, welfare in term of eats and drinks, but as team Uganda it’s high time we started getting allowances especially in these international tournaments, we host here and those we go outside the country.” Said Kasirye Brain after winning his day two fixture.

Since the tournament started on Thursday, team Uganda have been performing better and on Friday they had at least three men on winning sheet.

 As of Friday results, Kasirye Brain defeat Kenyan Mather Joseph Githitu 21-09,21-12, while Expedito Emuddu comfortably beat Eric Ngumo by 21-8,21-10.

Lubega Muzafar also defeat Kenyan national Edwin Akwanyi 21-19,21-17 but Davies Ssenono and Amos Mayanja did not win on the day.

Kabindi William, Team Uganda head coach praised his team’s performance on the day and he believes his side can maintain the performance.

“I attribute this performance with the good preparations made by the federation and the players because some of them when to India to get more fit and I believe they can still make us proud.” William Kabindi

The tournament that attracted over 90 players from eight countries is still on until Sunday 28, February and the winners and best performer will stand a chance to accumulate points that will enable them represent their countries in 2022 Commonwealth games.
